Motivate
Me!
Don't you hate it when you have a 'motivation meltdown'?
It is something we all experience from time to time. As a business
owner, the following tips are useful in pulling me out of a slump and
refocusing myself, so I thought I would share them with you:
1.
Write a
'to-do' list - it's a tried and true method but it
really does help to focus you. There is something satisfying about
crossing off each task as it is completed.
2. Write a 'to don't' list
- sounds strange doesn't it? Are there things that are taking you away
from your core business and draining your energy? Things that are not
your forte? Outsource them! You'll be amazed how much it reinvigorates
you.
3. Go for a walk/exercise
- we all know the many benefits of exercise but when procrastination starts
to set in, heading out for a breath of fresh air and sunshine with my
iPod is just the tonic to get me reenergised.
4. Get organised
- clutter in my office equates to clutter in my mind. My concentration
wanders and my motivation wanes. Set up a simple but effective filing
system (alphabetical is usually sufficient) and file, file, file! Do a
general tidy up in your office, throw out old papers/rubbish and you
will notice a huge improvement in your motivation levels with a clean,
clear desk.
5. Love your work -
I keep a list of reminders prominently displayed as to why I love my
work and love working for myself. Whenever I'm lacking motivation, I
read each of these slowly and really think about what each one means to
me. Soon I'm right back into it again. www.flyingsolo.com.au
has some great inspirational stories and tips.
5. Contact your business coach or
mentor - this is an emergency tactic if you are feeling like
you are in a big hole motivationally. A good coach will remind you of
your goals and get you back on track. If you don't have a business
coach, think seriously about getting one - they offer an amazing
difference to your business focus.
6. Don't stress
- motivation meltdowns happen, that's part of life! Don't panic, it
will pass soon enough. Perhaps it's your body trying to tell you it
needs a rest. Plan a mini-break if you can for a day or two and come
back to your work refreshed and raring to go.
